On Wednesday this week, i decided to go cold calling again! I printed off another 10 cv's, placed each one in is own envelope and personalised them 'to the personnel dept' so at least other people couldn't see them as i was handing them out!
Well in town i went and i was taking a real careful look at each shop i passed, deciding whether it was a place i could work at and the type of merchandise it sold! I wont work in a clothes/perfume/fresh food/shoe/gothic/you get my drift type of shop. So i eventually handed out (after some refusals of accepting them) 2 cv's!!! I felt let down about the recession but after talking to a sales staff in argos about what she was doing with her cv's, i didnt feel too bad afterwards, but still this recession is not improving.
I bought a paper, and was surprised to see only 3 pages with jobs rather than the usual amount one normally gets to see, that showed how many jobs were really available and it didnt look good! I read about one company and decided to go to their website and cold call them via their contacts. they politely replied back and he said 'i like your style' lol that made me smile, although they weren't taking anyone at this time, he said i was top of his list!!! lol we'll see.
Anyway i'm going to try more locally and i'm going to try Tracey's advise and search people in hull on twitter, and see what i get! I dont want to do a job interview technique thing with job centre or anything else they are offering as they are so boring and monotonous! The Government need a right kick up the arse and re-think about who they are targeting! I truly believe that the 'National Service' should be brought back targeting all school leavers who havent done good with their grades whether its their fault or not, and also to all the under 25's who blatantly refuse to look for work! 2 years learning about discipline, order and whatever else they do, should help get some of these youngsters off our streets. I was doing training courses and working at their age, and thats because i wanted to do something with my life.
Anyway i'm getting off my soapbox now, hope you are all going to have a great hot weekend! Have fun whatever you - I wont be doing much as i feel at my age, i am allowed to feel lazy now and then, after all, I make cards for leisure, I run a group for leisure, socialise with pensioners lol (does that say something about me?) so its about time i had some 'ME' time!
